Oshodi Arts Gallery [1][2], a premier hub for creativity and culture in Nigeria and West Africa, continues its tradition of recognizing exceptional talent in the visual arts. On February 18, 2025, the gallery hosted a prestigious event to present the Excellence in Innovative Mixed Media and Material Exploration Award to Miss Oluwafeyikemi (Feyi) Adekunle, a remarkable mixed media artist and researcher whose work uniquely integrates art and science.
Endorsed by The Society of Nigerian Artists and the Association of Nigerian Artisans and Technicians (ASNAT), this award highlights Feyi’s significant contributions to contemporary art through her inventive use of materials, textures, and scientific concepts.

Dr. Oshodi Seyi Paul, the CEO of Oshodi Arts Gallery [1], praised Feyi for embodying the essence of modern creativity and intellectual depth that characterizes a new generation of Nigerian artists breaking global barriers. He remarked, “Oluwafeyikemi (Feyi) Adekunle is a true embodiment of artistic innovation. Her works engage the senses, intellect, and emotion.”
Feyi holds dual Ph.D. degrees in Fiber & Polymer Science and Textile Technology Management from North Carolina State University, USA. Her work explores the relationship between texture, structure, and emotion, merging fibers, resins, and unconventional materials to create multidimensional portraits and abstract pieces.
The award celebrates her talent for transforming raw materials into expressive narratives reflecting transformation, resilience, and the intricate connections between matter and meaning.
In her acceptance speech, Feyi expressed heartfelt gratitude to Oshodi Arts Gallery and the endorsing organizations. She emphasized her mission to inspire curiosity and innovation among young African artists, saying, “This recognition reinforces my belief that art and science are not separate worlds—they are both languages of discovery. Through mixed media, I explore how materials tell stories of identity, endurance, and connection.”
This event marks another significant achievement for Oshodi Arts Gallery, which remains dedicated to fostering creative excellence and innovation among Nigerian artists, bridging traditional artistry with contemporary expressions across Africa and beyond.
